The article presents a theoretical framework to support student teachers develop narrative knowledge and bridge the gap between theory and experience in teaching and learning in the Netherlands. According to Dolk & den Hertog, (2008) “reflection is seen as a precondition for learning, especially learning from one’s own activities” (p. 215). In this way, they establish that reflection, discussion, and sharing enable student teachers to construct meaning from educational situations. To support their claims, they describe the multimedia interactive learning environment (MILE) used to carry out the learning experiment in order to produce a six-step design framework that aims to support student teachers working with multimedia cases to exceed the story level and achieve narrative knowledge in constructing meaning about education.
