The free book The Theory and Practice of Online Teaching and Learning: A guide for academic professionals (Routledge Taylor & Francis Group, n.d.) aims to provide a broad and concise overview of every aspect to be considered when facing the theory and practice of online teaching and learning. Taylor & Francis Group (n.d) has compiled six excerpts written by experts in the field in order to address all the aspects of online education, “we start with the basics, answering your questions and offering practical tips and advice” (The Theory and Practice…, n.d., p. 4) as they claimed. The first chapter, Teaching Online – The Basics, presents the fundamentals of online education and how it differs from traditional classroom education. The second chapter, Orientation to Online Teaching and Learning, focuses on the main features of course designing such as timing, and maintenance. In the third chapter, E-tivities for Active Online Learning, it is examined the wide range of online activities to foster online education. The fourth chapter, The Varied Terrain of Online Learning, proposes a classification of online teaching methods in an attempt to establish a taxonomy. Finally, while the fifth chapter, Reusing Open Resources for Learning, considers the effects of using open resources to extend the results of teaching and learning, chapter six, Teaching as a design science, analyses the connection between technology and education.
